July 29, 2022: Spider-Man: Homecoming 3

There’s no reason to believe Marvel Studios will not have a Spider-Man trilogy. The success of the original, the youth of Tom Holland and the potential to sell the Spider-Man name can’t be something Disney passes, especially after Sony held this character’s rights for most of the millennium.

July 29, 2022 would be three years after Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, despite the two years between the latter and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Marvel waited two years between the first and second Iron Man movies and three between the second and third; Captain America had gaps of three and two years. So, there’s no concrete book on how Marvel sets up movie trilogies.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 3’s arrival in 2022 spaces it out from the sequel, and gives viewers the appropriate amount of Spider-Man in an adequate time. Three movies in four years might be too much, too soon for Spidey before saturation takes its place. The same can be said for three movies in five years, but it’s difficult to think Marvel will wait more than three years between the second and third films.

Who knows where Peter Parker will be in 2022? Whether he has an official love interest, finds an ally or becomes enemies with familiar faces from the comics, there’s endless directions for Marvel to take this character in four years. Some of that will depend on Homecoming 2 and both Avengers movies.
