Peter is getting the hang of his new job as a science editor at the Daily Bugle in The Amazing Spider-Man #796. Check out our review of the issue!

Writers: Dan Slott and Christos Gage
Penciler: Mike Hawthorne
Inkers: Terry Pallot and Cam Smith
Color Artist: Erick Arciniega
Letterer: VC’s Joe Caramagna

Anti-Venom is in town and Spider-Man isn’t a huge fan of him playing hero in his neighborhood. They meet up later in the issue when Peter and Flash are both at an Alchemax event, which is interrupted by a team of goblins. The two suit up away from prying eyes and team up to keep everyone safe.

More from Spider-Man

Admittedly, I just caught up on the entirety of this current run from Dan Slott. I’ve felt fairly neutral about it while reading through it. Slott added in plenty of quips that we’re used to with Peter/Spider-Man, but what I noticed was just how much responsibility Peter ignored. He has a company to run, but always pushes everything onto other people. It never felt like he found that balance between being Peter and being Spider-Man.

The banter between Anti-Venom and Spider-Man is fun, but the goblins they face are the least of their problems. At the end, we see Norman use the Carnage symbiote to get the nanites out of him that stop him from becoming the Green Goblin. Now he has the ability to be both the Green Goblin and Carnage.

Must Read: Back in time: The Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #30

This issue just leads up to the final arc of Slott’s run. He’s concluding everything with The Amazing Spider-Man #801. At the moment, I’m more interested in where he plans to leave Peter. His life is still a mess and his break up with Bobbi happened fairly quickly.

Let’s not forget that MJ and Peter are pushed back together in this issue, too. It’s unlikely that situation will lead anywhere good with only a handful of issues left. It wasn’t a great decision and the best thing to hope for at this point is that it was only one night and the two will move on after it.

One last note, Peter is doing a decent job with his new position at the Daily Bugle, which is a little surprising. When he was the CEO of a company, he was rarely on time (which is nothing new). His first day is a success and it’ll be interesting to see how long that lasts for him with the threat fo Norman Osborn looming.
