Spider-Gwen #29 brings us part five of the Gwenom story arc. In this issue, Captain America has a little reunion with Gwen and it’s just in the nick of time. Gwen isn’t able to control her actions because of the symbiote and it results in her fighting Cap.

More from Spider-Man

Before any of that actually happens, though, we’re given a glimpse of what life is like for the Watchers. Uatu is assigned to Earth-65 and is asleep on the job and he’s chewed out for it. Since they are just meant to watch, though, Uatu isn’t interested in interfering when Uncle Ben tells Gwen to kill Matt Murdock.

The Watchers scene is one that shows just how dire things are on Earth-65 without us actually needing to be there at that moment. It’s well done and makes it even more impactful when we do see Gwen nearly kill Matt Murdock.

Frank Castle also wants to kill Murdock and things aren’t going so well when two people want to kill you on the same day. Most people would be too afraid to go against the Kingpin. However, Gwen isn’t remotely herself as Gwenom. The struggle we see her go through is a tough one to see, especially since she’s such a fun character when she’s herself.

Rico Renzi’s colors on this issue are fantastic. There isn’t another comic that really has the look and feel that Spider-Gwen does. With her being on Earth-65, there’s more ways to play around with what the world looks like since it’s not the one we mainly see.

Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez make a good team, too. They really understand the characters and nail the style. This wasn’t the best Spider-Gwen issue, but it was a solid one and I’m looking forward to how they close out the Gwenom story arc.
