Review: Spider-Gwen (2015) #30, Gwen meets Gwen
Spider-Gwen finds herself on another Earth and meets that Earth’s Gwen in issue #30. Check out our review.
Writer: Jason Latour
Artist: Robbi Rodriguez
Color Artist: Rico Renzi
Letterer: VC’s Clayton Cowles
Spider-Gwen #30 puts a pause on Gwen’s plan for revenge against Matt Murdock. She’s been transported to a different Earth, where she meets that Earth’s Gwen Stacy. On this Earth, Gwen just lost her dad and Spider-Man is being blamed for it. This Gwen is also in a relationship with Peter Parker, which Spider-Gwen finds odd.

Seeing the two interact together is interesting. We learn by the end that Spider-Gwen is on Earth-617 now and whenever we see Earth-617 Gwen, the comics looks like some old pulp comics. It has a different texture to it and it shows the difference between the two characters and their worlds. It’s an effect that makes it feel like Spider-Gwen is completely out of place.
It takes the two a while to just sit down and actually get to know one another, but how they get there makes sense. Naturally, they both have questions for one another. Spider-Gwen even tries to get help from Reed Richards, but because Spider-Man pesters them, she ends up being shocked instead.

With Spider-Gwen trapped on this world, it doesn’t push the story forward a ton, but we see her struggling with what she was doing on her Earth because of the Venom symbiote.
There’s also a situation on Earth-8, which brings in a third Gwen Stacy and her kids. This timeline is in the future, so it isn’t totally clear how that future came to be just yet, but the Watchers plan to find out.
While I love the look of this issue and what Robbi Rodriguez and Rico Renzi did with the art and colors, the story just wasn’t compelling enough for me to love this issue. It’s fine, but I’m hoping we get back to Earth-65 soon and see what consequences await Spider-Gwen.
