A hero by any other name is usually called a sidekick who do not always get the respect they deserve. While the big-name heroes are getting featured films and TV shows, the sidekicks are left in the wind. So, for our contribution, we’ll list the greatest sidekicks in comic book history.
There are a number of comic book heroes who dominate the topic of conversation when discussing comic books. The popularity of these heroes has led to them being depicted in a live-action format. These comic book heroes, often DC and Marvel have received a ton of hype and deservedly so.
However, there are some other heroes who helped them along the way. These heroes fought by their side in some of their greatest battles and saved their lives countless times. Before they branched off and became heroes of their own they earned the title of sidekicks. While they aren’t exactly receiving a ton of recognition on the big screen or television, these heroes deserve some love. There are some sidekicks who have more name recognition than others and for good reason. Still, their names cannot be mentioned enough, so here are the greatest sidekicks in comic book history.
15. Jimmy Olsen

Jimmy’s popularity is why he was a major character on Smallville (Aaron Ashmore) and why he was part of the main cast on CW’s Supergirl where he even took up the mantle, the Guardian played by Mehcad Brooks. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the same respect from the DCEU where he was murdered in anticlimactic fashion. Still, fans love the courageous photojournalist who works for the Daily Planet. Jimmy often teamed up with Lois Lane however, he’s not on the list for being Lois’ sidekick. James Olson is unlike any other sidekick we have on the list. He doesn’t have a special suit, or and superhuman qualities and his sidekick label is barely that.
Jimmy makes the list because he has the prototype watch that acts as his version of the Bat-signal. Anytime he presses the button on the watch gifted to him by Superman the hero comes flying in. Nevertheless, he makes the list and Jimmy Olsen fans should be proud.
14. Jughead Jones
Jughead’s popularity is the reason why he makes the list on top the fact that he’s the sidekick of Archie Andrews. Known for his trademark beanie, and the sweatshirt with S plastered on the front, this sidekick has been around since the 1940s. He started out as one of the main characters in the Archie newspaper comic strips and has since developed into a character of his own. Jugged is known for being a lazy asexual cynic.
After years on the comic strip, Jughead was brought to life by the CW Network in their murder mystery hit show, Riverdale. Dylan Sprouse plays the famous sidekick though he’s a bit darker than his comic book counterpart.
