Venomized #1 continues the events of Venomverse and Marvel’s heroes have plenty of symbiotes to fight off.

Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Iban Coelle
Color Artist: Matt Yackey
Letterer: VC’s Joe Caramagna

Venom and the X-Men are back on Earth and they still have plenty of chaos to deal with. A team that looks like the X-Force is going around and unleashing symbiotes. We see several heroes who have the symbiote attached to them and the number continues to grow.

More from Spider-Man

Spider-Man is one to keep an eye one because of his experience with symbiotes. He’s taken over by one, but it doesn’t completely have control of him. He’s still friendly enough with the heroes to be part of their plan to stop the take over.

This issue serves largely as set up for what comes next, so it isn’t a fantastic issue, but it does what it set outs to do. We see X-Men, Spider-Man, Thor and plenty of other heroes to go around. This series won’t be lacking them by any means. It’s also worth noting that this event takes place before The Death of the Mighty Thor, which is also stated in the issue.

Must Read: Marvel has plans for the Ultimate Universe

Bunn has some nice moments with the writing, but it’s all fairly straightforward. Coello’s art isn’t the best I’ve seen, but it’s more than serviceable for the issue. There are a lot of heroes to draw and a significant amount of action, which can’t be easy.

A reader could jump in to Venomized without having read Venomverse, “Posion X” or Venom Inc. and not totally be confused. This issue explains what is going on and with the remaining issues, we hope to see a good story come of it.
