Marvel Cinematic Universe: Top 25 moments of all time
14. Spider-Man: Homecoming – The Self-Reliant Spider-Man
Spider-Man’s first solo outing in the MCU is all about growth. A hallmark of the character, the theme of growth follows Peter as he graduates from petty crime to hardened super criminals. Initially treated as a junior hero by Tony Stark, Spider-Man proves himself to be a capable crimefighter when he takes on the Vulture.
The defining moment comes after the Vulture brings a building down on Spider-Man. No back-up and no training wheels, Peter is alone at the bottom of a pile of rubble. Despite being scared and injured, he summons all his courage (and Spider-Strength) in order to get himself free. Point of fact, this isn’t the young adult Spider-Man of films passed. This is a teenager, a boy in his formative years, pushing himself to complete a near herculean task.
This is the best Spider-Man moment in the MCU so far. If Marvel manages to keep this tone with the character, he will continue to be a success. Tom Holland does a spectacular job of letting the audience in on the character’s frame of mind. Peter Parker talks himself through the struggle he is facing and pulls through on his own. I’m excited to see how Spider-Man composes himself during Infinity War because he is going be facing challenges he could never have dreamed of.
