17. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – Reconciliation

Gamora and Nebula were both introduced as daughters of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy. There was plenty of animosity between the two, stemming from the fact that they were trained to be killers by one of the most ruthless beings in the known Marvel Universe. They part on bad terms during the first Guardians. In Vol. 2, despite starting the film at odds, the two manage to reconcile. Nebula helps the Guardians defeat Ego, effectively joining the team.

Being two of the stronger, more featured female characters in the MCU, it was compelling to see the two badasses make good. There is plenty of fraternal and paternal relationships in Marvel movies, but not a lot of sisterly bonds, so I was glad to see them appreciate what they had. Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillian do a fantastic job of conveying the emotions of two sisters who have never had a close bond, but who always longed for a family. It should also prove for a great standoff against the Mad Titan in Infinity War. That is, of course, one doesn’t betray the other for their father…
