Spider-Gwen #31 continues “The Life go Gwen Stacy” storyline and gives us a rundown of what has been going on with Gwen-617 and Gwen-65. There’s been quite a bit to keep track of as Gwen-65 wasn’t on her own Earth.

Before we dive into catching up with Gwen, though, we get caught up on Captain America and Matt Murdock. Murdock is now on satellite footage that S.H.I.E.L.D. has that puts a clock on him, according to Cap at least. She’s not afraid of him even though he’s the Kingpin.
The two Watchers, Uatu and Utaa, are on Earth-8 arguing over everything that has transpired on Earth-65. Nothing is how it should be, but their job is to watch and not act. The two are entertaining together even if things are looking pretty dire for Earth-65.

Gwen-617 takes us back to a story from her Earth. Her and Gwen-65 went to the Avengers Mansion to get help from Tony Stark. They cleverly play to his ego and say that they’ll go to Reed Richards if he doesn’t want to help him. Turns out, Tony Stark on any Earth doesn’t seem to be all that different.
On Earth-616, Gwen Stacy never becomes Spider-Gwen and dies on the bridge. They two Gwen’s in this issue go to that same bridge and Gwen-65 makes the choice to jump off of it. It’s a powerful moment and one of the reasons this issue works so well.

The Watchers are in disbelief for this entire issue and they’ve been more enjoyable than I expected. They’ve always seemed so serious, but that isn’t the case here. The cliffhanger to close out the issue is Gwen-65 visiting J. Jonah Jameson. So it appears (for now) that she survived the jump off of the bridge.
Spider-Gwen #31 is a wonderful issue. It has a good story to tell and I can’t wait to see how Latour wraps up his run on this series. I’m sad that it’ll be ending soon, but it looks like they’ll be ending on a high note.
