30 greatest Deadpool moments in Marvel Comics
By Mark Lynch
24. Blind Al
Before he was Deadpool, he was Wade Winston Wilson. He was military turned mercenary. Wade was hired to kill Blind Al in Zaire. Wade killed everyone except for her. It’s still unknown why he left her alive. At some point after Wade becomes Deadpool, he finds Al, captures her, and brings her to his home where she becomes his prisoner. She may start off as his captive, but she ends up becoming like a mother to him.
Blind Al was there for Deadpool for the most important moments of his life. Deadpool used to have a room he specifically used to torture himself. When Deadpool ended up spending too much time in there, Al told him to get himself together. When his nemesis T-Ray wanted to fight him, Al told him it wasn’t worth it. And when Deadpool thought he failed at saving the world, Al was there to hold him as he cried. These are the moments where Deadpool needed a nurturer instead of another fight. Al kept the flame of a hero lit when no one else could.
Maybe the most influential moment was when Al stopped treating him like a son and acted like his prisoner. Deadpool didn’t realize how much he needed her until she wasn’t there for him. Wade eventually apologized and closed up the torture room for good. Al hugged him like a mother would a son—one of the few times Deadpool was legitimately happy.
