The Damnation crossover continues in Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #16 and Ben finds himself making a deal he probably shouldn’t make. Check out our full review!

Cover Artists: Khary Randolph & Emilio Lopez

Ben Reilly teams up with a group of heroes to try to save Las Vegas. He’s sent out on his own, though, so we only get a brief moment where the heroes are fighting the demon heroes. Once Ben leaves, we don’t really get an update on that, which is a bummer since it’s an interesting part of the story.

More from Spider-Man

However, Ben is fighting everyday people who have turned into demons and while he’s not quite as quippy as Peter, he has his moments. His line about it being “one of those days” is nicely timed for the current situation. Despite how serious things are, there’s always time for some comedic relief, especially since it is just how some people cope with serious and stressful situations.

By the end of the issue, Ben is making a deal with Mephisto, which doesn’t seem like a good idea by any means. This is easily the most important moment in the issue, though. The fighting is mostly just a ploy to show how crazy things are getting in the city.

However, there’s also a moment where Jezebel just disappears from Mercury Towers and heads to a house. Not much else is given there, but I have no doubt there will be follow up to that moment in a future issue.

Overall, this issue is a means to an end, but it’s still enjoyable along the way. Peter David and Will Sliney make a nice team and really know how to portray Ben at any given moment. I’m certainly interested in seeing how he manages to save Las Vegas.
