Marvel Cinematic Universe: Dear actors, please stop spoiling movies
Marvel Cinematic Universe actors continue to spoil movies and it’s a problem.
Spoilers are the worst. Unfortunately, As social media becomes increasingly prevalent, spoilers are running more rampant than ever. Recently, movie actors have been unintentionally spoiling movies through their comments in interviews. Specifically, actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have taken some of the intrigue out of their upcoming movies.
This troubling trend started gaining some traction during the production of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. For example, Chris Evans revealed that he is done with Marvel after Avengers 4 and Robert Downey Jr. confirmed that he would be back for the sequel to Infinity War. Both of these instances occurred before Infinity War hit theaters; Downey’s comments date as far back as October 2017. This behavior could ultimately ruin the experience of watching these movies.
Months before the movie’s premiere, everyone connected to Infinity War teased that the movie would feature real consequences and death. Naturally, fans wondered which characters would survive. Normally, viewers would have to wait to see the movie to have that question answered. However, comments like the ones made by Evans and Downey Jr. take the uncertainty out of that question.

Thanks to those comments, fans somewhat knew what to expect to see in Infinity War. Viewers knew that Captain America and Iron Man would likely survive. As a result, these comments take a lot of the fun out of watching these movies. There’s no need to wonder whether certain characters will survive because some of the actors give away the answers ahead of time. Recent comments by Dave Bautista and other actors in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” reinforce that idea.
Bautista, who plays Drax, confirmed that he would be back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Avengers 4. According to Chris E. Hayner of Gamespot, Bautista said as much in an interview with Collider.
"“‘ I’m gonna be in [Avengers 4]. I’m gonna be in Guardians 3. I don’t know how they’re bringing me back, yeah but somehow I’m going to make it because, as far as I know, I am going to be in Guardians 3, so I have to be back. ’”"
Similarly, Chris Pratt, who plays Starlord, gave away that he will return. Pratt was more indirect in his reveal. Shaun Kitchener of Express writes that Pratt used a subtle tweet to confirm his return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Again, by telling fans they’ll be back for specific future movies, the actors are indirectly spoiling the films.

Hopefully, Marvel and other film studios will take actions to prevent these spoilers in the future. Maybe Kevin Feige will swear his actors to secrecy. Viewers should hope that’s the case. Otherwise, an annoying trend could grow into a behavior pattern that ruins the enjoyment of watching movies.
