2. Will Alura return next season?

Perhaps the season’s biggest surprise came when Kara discovered that her mother, Alura, was actually alive after all this time. Now portrayed by Smallville legend Erica Durance, Alura revealed to us that Kara’s father had created a shield to protect Argo City from destruction. Though Zor-El didn’t survive to see his plan come to fruition, he did end up saving Argo (and his wife) from the disaster.

After seeing Kara’s heartbreak during the first two seasons, it was wonderful to see her reunite with her mother. Though the season’s main plot often overshadowed their time together, they were given the chance to get to know each other when Kara returned to Argo to stay. Unfortunately for the Girl of Steel, her stay was cut short when Selena betrayed the Kryptonians and unleashed Reign on Earth. Thus, Supergirl returned to Earth with Mon-El. However, Alura joined them too — sporting an amazing new uniform.

It was positively wonderful to see the pair fighting side-by-side as they saved National City from the terraforming. Furthermore, after she portrayed Superman’s leading lady for so many years, there was something awe-inspiring about seeing Erica Durance fly. The only unfortunate aspect about the whole thing was that she returned home immediately after Team Supergirl’s victory.

So, now we’re left wondering if Alura will return in Season 4. The fact that Laura Benanti was recast suggests that the creative team knew all along that the character would have a much bigger role this season. And now that we all know (and Kara knows too) that she’s alive, it’s normal to assume that we’ll see her again. After all, she didn’t even get a chance to fully explore her daughter’s new home: Earth. So, it’s only fitting that we see plenty of Alura (and the amazing Erica Durance) during Season 4.
