Venom #3 brings us a team up between Eddie Brock and Miles Morales after they duke it out a little. Check out our spoiler-filled review.

Writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman are taking Venom and giving us one of the character’s most interesting stories. By bringing Eddie Brock back, they have a certain focus on the past. Normally, I’m not much of a history buff (real or fictional), but this is done in such a clever way that even though it’s tied into ancient times, it has me interested.

Miles Morales popped in at the end of the previous issue and he winds up fighting Venom until Eddie talks him down and points out the real threat. Eddie and Miles are both confused by fire not affecting the ancient symbiote, so Miles winds up inside it to use his Venom blast.

More from Spider-Man

The big reveal for the issue is that Knull is inside the dragon and he’s the God of the symbiotes. He’s been around for billions of years. He’s a huge threat, but as long as he’s been around, he probably has some of the answers that Eddie has been looking for.

Cates and Stegman do a wonderful job of making this story dark, but not too dark. However, I’m expecting that things are going to get a lot worse before they get any better. If Eddie is scared, then you know things can’t be good. Plus, Knull just takes Venom from him like it was nothing.

Before we get to that dire ending, though, Cates writes both Miles and Eddie extremely well. Miles is understandably mad due to his history with a symbiote. With Eddie trying to be a good guy, he apologizes to Miles and says that they can settle things later. Even though Eddie might not be the direct cause of the pain Miles is feeling, he understands it. Details like that make this comic even better.

Venom is off to a crazy, but great start. I’m worried about what comes next and looking forward to it at the same time.
