Batman Beyond
From 1999-2001, the voice of Will Friedle made fans fall in love with, Terry McGinns in Batman Beyond. The Warner Bros animated series was one of the best cartoons of the late 90s becoming an instant hit.
The story followed a delinquent in future Gotham who became the Dark Knight of a city in desperate need of a hero. The story of how Terry became Gotham’s new Batman is different from Bruce Wayne’s. Although, Terry would later learn that he and Bruce have much more in common than he thinks.
Revisiting the history of Batman Beyond
Terry’s parents, Warren and Mary McGinnis were a research scientist and astronomer, but his adequate upbringing didn’t keep him off the streets. Terry was a troubled kid growing up in the mean streets of Gotham in 2023.
As a teenager Terry and his bestfriend, Charlie Big Time Bigelow became gang members. At 14, Terry was busted for shoplifting and sentenced to juvie for three months in back-to-back years. Yet, a couple of years later, Terry’s life would change forever.
After getting into a fight with his father, Terry would storm out. He found trouble when ran into the Jokerz. While on the run from them, Terry would himself trapped on Wayne Mansion. Unbeknownst to him, he’d be aided by an old, retired Bruce Wayne. Together, they defeated the Jokerz but the battle took a toll on the elderly Bruce. Terry nursed Bruce back to health and on his way out of the mansion he discovers the entrance to the Batcave.
Old man Bruce chased Terry out where he’d later learn of his father’s murder. Reluctantly, Bruce tells him to take it to Police Commissioner Barbra Gordon but he’s cornered by the men who killed his father. Terry steals Batman’s suit in an effort to stop his dad’s killers. Though Bruce is initially against Terry’s crusade he eventually takes him under his wing. There’s so much freedom with Batman Beyond to make an excellent show and Steven R. McQueen will be perfect for the role.
