Review: Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider #21 brings one big coincidence
Ben Reilly is on the hunt for a cure for Abigail still and runs into a big problem along the way. Check out our review of Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider #21.
Since arriving in Vegas, things have not gone quite as planned for Ben Reilly. This series has been full of crazy things happening and the phrase, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” feels quite appropriate at times.
Ben runs into Sauron when he’s looking for Dr. Sanders in order to find a cure for Abigail Mercury. Naturally, Sauron can breath flames, which allows for some nice writing from Peter David to show how annoyed and frustrated Ben is with the current situation.

Will Sliney does an excellent job with the action panels, but there is one in particular that stands out to me. In the midst of the fight, there’s a panel that’s just a close up of Sauron’s eyes and you just see how manipulative and evil he is in that moment.
Sanders ends up sacrificing himself, but gives Ben an address for the cure as his final act. You can see how much this effects Ben and it gives a good look at how much he’s changed.

Kaine’s storyline introduces us to Nakano, who takes out the Mindless One with relative ease. It feels like we’re bound to see her again and Kaine goes invisible to take a ride to where they’re taking the Mindless One. At the end, we see him on the same street that Sanders told Ben about. This certainly isn’t a coincidence.
This issue does a nice job of tying the two storylines together and it leaves just enough mystery to have you wanting the next issue already. I’m looking forward to what comes next from this situation.
