Margot Robbie is expressed her interest in making Birds of Prey leads das diverse. We think it’s a good idea and list a handful of actresses who could help.
Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey is one of many projects in development by the DCEU. We recently received news that and R rated Birds of Prey will start filming in 2019. Part of the reason is Margot Robbie’s enthusiasm and the need for female heroines on the big screen. The lack of diversity plagues Hollywood. According to Yahoo, that’s why Robbie expressed interest in diversifying Birds of Prey.
"“Yep, yes exactly, real life isn’t so one specific image… We’ve got to reflect that onscreen.”"
Robbie’s comments shouldn’t be taken likely since she’s been hard at work trying to get this film made for years. Cathy Yan will undoubtedly look to get as much attention as possible on her movie. One way to get a positive buzz going would be a more ethnically diverse cast.
Changing comic book characters ethnicity has worked well in comic book movies and shows. CW’s the Flash has done a great job with Iris and Wally West, albeit the characters changed in the New 52. Beyond that, with a greater success rate, Marvel did so with Nick Fury and Valkyrie. If can work without a hitch for the MCU, it’s no reason for it not to work in the DCEU. So, here are some actresses who would make Birds of Prey diverse.

Barbara Gordon Oracle/Batgirl
Barbara Gordon being cast as anything but a redhead may not sit well with fans. Nevertheless, if Margot Robbie wants diverse leads, there’s a chance that’s exactly what’ll happen. The question is… Does Barbra Gordon’s skin color or nationality truly dictate her character?
Police Commissioner Jim Gordon is her father but that doesn’t mean her mother couldn’t be of another race or nationality. Moreover, there is some part of Barbra Gordon’s history that contradicts Jim being her father — there’s that. The bottom line is Barbara was once Batgirl after being shot and paralyzed she became Oracle, founder of the Birds of Prey. With that said, Cathy Yan can look to cast a more diverse actress as Barbra Gordon.
Naomi Scott
The 25-year old actress. Although she isn’t particularly known, is making her rounds in Hollywood. In 2011 she played in Disney TV movie, Lemonade Mouth. Afterward, she played Kimberley in the 2017 Power Rangers reboot. While we didn’t get to dive deep into her character she did prove that she’s ready for action. Kimberley was a mean girl that no longer fit in with her friends. When gifted with detention, Kimberley cut her hair symbolically shedding her old life.
The new Kimberley found new friends, new attitude, and new powers. Scott was kick-ass and part of the reason why the movie deserves a sequel. Nevertheless, she proved why she’s capable of playing a hero and who better than Barbra Gordon. We’ll see Naomi Scott play Jasmine in the upcoming live-action Aladdin.
