Review: The Amazing Spider-Man (2018) #2, Peter’s new job
The Amazing Spider-Man #2 continues Nick Spencer’s first arc, “Back to Basics,” in his run on the series in another fun issue. Read on for our spoiler-filled review.
When Marvel first announced that Nick Spencer would be taking over The Amazing Spider-Man, I was a little worried that he wouldn’t be able to hold up to the high standard that Dan Slott had set. Boy, was I wrong! The Amazing Spider-Man #2 is almost as exciting as issue one, filled with villains, quips, Mary Jane and Peter still together. Plus there’s a cliffhanger that is bound to make you scratch your head.
Back to the not-so-basic story
The issue begins with a normal day in the life of Spider-Man. He’s facing two villains, Man Mountain Marko and the Ringer (which is also a great website, as Peter says), while dishing out quips here and there. Peter is then shown spending some quality time with his once more girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson. Their moment is cut short due to Peter having to go to Empire State University.

Spider-Man meets WHO NOW?!
After this, we are now back at the scene where issue one left off. The Lizard, now reformed (mostly) is teaching a class and wants Peter to have the second chance of making up his “plagiarized” work. While Peter is there, Taskmaster and the Black Ant attack to steal an Isotope Genome Accelerator that is being held in the classroom. Peter quickly becomes Spider-Man and defeats the two, but he finds a surprise waiting for him. The last person he saves and helps off the floor is none other than….. Peter Parker!!?

I really enjoyed this issue, even if it couldn’t fully measure up to the first issue’s might. It did a great job of portraying what makes Peter Spider-Man (the quips, the Parker Luck, etc.) and I really love the cliffhanger of Peter Parker and Spider-Man being in the same room. You can bet that we will be doing an article on that very soon.
