Review: Marvel Super Hero Adventures: Inferno! #1
With Venom set loose in the city, is up to Spider-Man and Inferno to take him down. But will they be able to work as a team?
A new issue for Marvel Super Hero Adventures means there will be a new lesson for all kids that read it! And with that also comes great illustrations, good humor and a story for everybody to enjoy. This time around, Inferno needs to learn to trust himself and his abilities in order to stop Venom. Along the way, Spider-Man will help him uncover his true potential and take down the evil symbiote. There is a lot of emphasis on the lesson here, but that’s great considering it’s an example everyone (not only little kids) should follow.
As all other issues of MSHA, the illustrations here are simply great. The cartoony design of the characters helps the series not only to entertain the kids but to differentiate itself from other comic books. Dario Brizuela has a distinctive style with his drawings, even so, that if I only had a picture of one of the panels here, without knowing it belongs to this particular issue, I would be able to tell its from MSHA. And the coloring is also great for the series, with many vibrant and live palettes of colors through the whole story. Chris Sotomayor really makes a great work with the coloring, making this world feel alive.
The story delivers, but when you compare it to other MSHA issues it may fall a little short. The Spider-Doctor was one of the best examples of how this series can really get the chance to shine (even for older readers). Unfortunately, there may be moments in this issue that may feel a little cheesy. This isn’t a huge concern, really, because the story is made specifically for kids. But even they may find other issues of MSHA to be a lot more fun.
In conclusion, this issue may not be as memorable as one of its sister stories (even when having Venom and Inferno in it) but it manages to tell a great story, a great lesson and to entertain readers all the way through.
