Moovin

Kevin and Moose (Cody Kearsley) have been canon as being love interests for one another since the pilot. Yet, they have had the least development of any ship on this list (save Jeronica).

Now, that can be partially attributed to the writers and producers’ decision to have Moose be closeted, which was not a disservice to Moose or to Moovin. In the real world, not all members of the LBGTQ community are out, and television should be, at least in part, a reflection of the real world.

What was a disservice to Moovin was their lack of screen time. Just because Kevin and Moose weren’t a couple doesn’t mean they couldn’t have had a more substantial relationship. Even as a series regular, Kevin was heavily underused in season two. Moose is a recurring character, and unfortunately, he will continue to be in season three.

Kevin and Moose will finally be together in season three, though, which makes their best moment from season two even more satisfying. It wasn’t their first kiss, but it was their most passionate. Moose was still in pain over Midge’s (Emilija Baranac) death, and Kevin was there for him. But, more importantly, Kevin didn’t force anything. It was Moose who made the first move.

Varchie

Varchie has had more romantic scenes than any other couple on Riverdale, so its hard to narrow down their best. However, this scene stands out because it demonstrates how well-matched they are.

I was quite concerned about how the Nick kidnapping Archie storyline would be resolved once  Nick informed Veronica of his despicable non-monetary ransom demand. Riverdale‘s writers and producers have a track record of sensationalizing trauma, so I was genuinely worried that Veronica would sacrifice herself for Archie.

Of course, I wouldn’t think any less of Veronica, but it would not exactly have been an empowering storyline and would have been absolutely detrimental for young viewers to watch.

However, the storyline ended up being resolved quite satisfactorily by demonstrating the power of Varchie. Veronica proved that she is her own knight in shining armor, fully capable of saving her boyfriend and herself, while Archie was seconds away from doing the same for Veronica. The scene showed that they are equal partners.
