Benn Grimm and Alicia Masters will finally tie the knot in an upcoming issue of Fantastic Four!

Ben Grimm aka The Thing, founding member of the Fantastic Four, will be marrying his longtime, on again off again girlfriend Alicia Masters this December. The nuptials will take place in Fantastic Four #5. Some comic readers may be a bit skeptical after a few of the fake-out weddings earlier this year, but Marvel assures us the happy couple will be getting married. “Don’t worry, Marvel fans – this wedding will definitely have the happy couple saying I do”, Marvel said in their press release.

The issue promises to feature Ben and Alicia’s wedding, an untold tale of their courtship, a crazy bachelor party from Johnny Storm (who was Alicia’s previous husband) and trouble in Latveria.

In addition to being Ben and Alicia’s wedding, Fantastic Four #5 is also special because it will be the 650th legacy numbered issue. Artist Aaron Kuder discussed getting to work on such a monumental issue with such esteemed creatives:

"“There are a handful of comic titles that demand respect due to their history. Titles that have influenced generations of fans and creators alike. Fantastic Four is definitely one of the biggest. It is truly an honor on that basis alone. Throw in the fact that I’m working with legendary creators like Dan, Mike, Adam, and Marte, and that just sets my inner fanboy a-spinning. I’ll be giving this all I’ve got.”"

Adam Hughes and Michael Allred will also be illustrating the issue. There will also be a special cover by Esad Ribic, pictured below.

In an interview with Marvel.com, Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort expressed his excitement about the long-awaited event:

"“It’s been a long time in coming—more than 55 years!—but Ben and Alicia are finally tying the knot, and we’ve gone all-out to make this an extra-special event for fans, with the inclusion of not only the terrific Aaron Kuder (who’ll be illustrating the next storyline as well) but also Adam Hughes and Mike Allred for an all-star spectacular bash!”"

Ben Grimm popped the question to Alicia in the first issue of Dan Slott’s relaunched Fantastic Four title. Alicia and Ben first met in Fantastic Four issue 8 published in 1962. They’ve discussed marriage before, but ultimately it never worked out. Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time Alicia has wed a Fantastic Four member. In Fantastic Four issue 300, she wed Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. This was later revealed to be a Skrull imposter named Lyja. The fallout of this made relations weird between Johnny, Ben and Alicia.

When Dan Slott wrote The Thing series in 2005, he brought Alicia and Ben back together. He had plans for Ben to propose to Alicia (complete with a musical number), but the comic was cancelled before that ever happened. Fantastic Four writers then ignored Slott’s developments and had Ben get engaged to a teacher named Deb Green. Ben would wind up leaving Deb at the altar in Fantastic Four issue 569.

As Marvel promises, Ben won’t be leaving his bride at the altar this time, and Alicia will not be a Skrull.

Fantastic Four #5 (legacy number 650) goes on sale Dec 26th.
