4. A more evolved Harley Quinn

There’s no denying Margot Robbie’s amazing portrayal of Harley Quinn. Robbie’s ability to bring Harley to life despite the glaring flaws that existed is a testament to her greatness. There’s a fine line between being sexually liberated and being objectified. Harley Quinn teetered toward the latter since Ayer’s film neglected to make Harley more than a shallow version of her comic book counterpart.

Yes, Harley is often depicted as a woman suffering from co-dependency. Ayers’ depiction stayed true to a woman holding on to a man, who brutally abuses her. However, that shouldn’t have been the case. We didn’t need the Harley that’s often depicted as Joker dependent. Harley is a dynamic character that comic book fans know, but moviegoers weren’t allowed to see. The unequivocal strength that aids her empowerment is a quality neglected by the first film.

Birds of Prey is the next film we’ll see Harley Quinn in, so expect her to end up back with Task Force X. Birds of Prey will undo the damage done by Suicide Squad. However, Suicide Squad 2 should explore the complex depths of Harley. Todd Stashwick promised a more in-depth look into characters, and Harley needs it. The same goes for Amanda Waller.
