3. An in-depth look into Amanda Waller

As much as Suicide Squad is about the DC villains depicted on the big screen, Amanda Waller is just as important. Viola Davis was an amazing choice for the role, but she was a relegated to a glorified supporting character. Since the film lacked focus, Waller’s story suffered. We didn’t get to see who Amanda Waller was outside of being the boss. If you weren’t a comic book reader, it was hard to get invested in the character. There’s more to her than the original film let on. It was a mistake by not detailing her story.

Waller isn’t just some deep state government operative. She is a powerful woman, who overcame tragedy to reach success. Her story is one of triumph that saw her rise from the projects of Chicago. Waller’s son, who was on a college scholarship, and young daughter fell victim to violence. The system failed, and her daughter’s killer never saw justice. That same killer murdered her husband. Seeking justice, Waller put herself through college and worked her way up the political ladder. In Washington DC, she uncovered files of the world’s most notorious criminals and created Task Force X aka Suicide Squad.
