Review: Spider-Geddon #0 is the start of something big
Spider-Geddon #0 prepares us for the big event with two stories showing us some of the spider-people who are involved. Spoilers ahead.
Spider-Geddon #0 brings us two stories to get us ready for the big event that will really begin with issue #1. In the first story, “New Players,” we get a look at the PS4 Spider-Man and Superior Spider-Man. This is the debut of the former and many will already be familiar with the latter.
“New Players” gives us plenty of quips from the Spider-Man of Earth-1048. We get some comical moments where you can tell that Otto Octavious’ Superior Spider-Man is annoyed with him. At one point he even says that there has to be a mute Spider-man out there somewhere after Spidey suggests calling the armageddon they face Spider-Geddon.
The art from Clayton Crain is great in this story. He captures the look and feel of Spider-Man from the PS4 game well and his work on Tarantula and Superior Spider-Man make the whole thing look even better. Christos Gage does a nice job with the writing, too. He captures the personalities of all of the characters so well.

The second story, “Check In,” by Jed MacKay with art by Javier Garrón and colors by Israel Silva is a nice addition to the issue. We see Hobie, Pavitr and company monitoring the Inheritors seven months prior to this event. May takes over for Hobie as Spider-bots continue to be deployed and Pavitr is thankful for the change.
If you’re looking for a primer to the big event, give Edge of Spider-Geddon and this issue a read beforehand. While they might not be crucial, it is nice to see things like Earth-1048 Peter handing things off to the less experienced Miles Morales while he’s gone. It also gives us a change to spend more time with characters we don’t see all the time in the staple Spider-Man titles.
I’m looking forward to how the event turns out. We still have Superior Octopus #1 to look forward to before things really get going with Spider-Geddon. Will you be diving in to the big event?
