New details emerge from the DCEU about Birds of Prey with some unique twist to a few characters’ origins.

DCEU’s Birds of Prey has the internet buzzing. The latest news surrounding Cathy Yan’s film gives fans a taste of to expect from the upcoming Margot Robbie production. That Hashtag Show dropped a hot take regarding the movie, with one update revealed a little more about the plot. Specifically highlighting Harley Quinn’s life after Joker, and why the women of Gotham come together.

"“After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.”"

Additionally, there’s information on how each character fits into the film. However, fans can expect some tweaks to their heroes comic book origins — specifically Black Mask and Huntress. Birds of Prey movie paints Huntress as an assassin for Black Mask. In the film, after discovering he was responsible for her parent’s death; he becomes her target.

More from Movies

In the pages of DC Comics, Helena Bertinelli becomes Huntress after the murder of her family. She trains to become a mercenary who tracks down the people responsible for killing her family. In Birds of Prey, much of her background can stay intact. Though, unlike the comics having Black Mask responsible for her parents’ death makes things interesting.

Margot Robbie made it clear early on that diversity was at the forefront of her vision. Moreover, there were rumors that suggested the DCEU wanted a singer to play Black Canary. So Warner Bros. and Walter Hamada cast an actress who can sing in Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary — now we know why. In Birds of Prey, Black Canary is a singer who fights crime at night.

Dinah is often associated with law enforcement or part of the judicial system. At one point, she became a florist after moving to Seattle with Oliver Queen. This take, on the other hand, borrows from Black Canary Vol. 1: Kicking and Screaming. Kicking and Screaming sees Dinah as D.D. the lead singer of Black Canary a band who performs in Burnside, Gotham.

"“After years as a crimefighter, Dinah Lance never imagined herself as a singer…but now she’d die to protect her new band of misfits and trouble magnets”"

Black Canary isn’t the only hero in Gotham. Renee Montoya, a GCPD officer has it out for Huntress and Black Mask. The deadly duo left a trail of bodies in her city. In the case of Harley Quinn, as mentioned in the brief plot — she’s trying to move on from The Joker. The only major difference is she’s using Birds of Prey instead of Poison Ivy and Gotham City Sirens.

There’s an expected cameo from a DC character

That Hashtag Show mentioned fans can expect an “epic cameo.” A good old fashion cameo appearance is good for business. With so many DC characters involved with Birds of Prey, there’s no telling who’ll pop up. The question is who?

Black Canary could mean we’ll receive Wildcat or Green Arrow appearance — albeit the latter isn’t likely. Cassandra Cain means Lady Shiva or Ras al Ghul the former is interesting since she’s never been depicted in live-action. Harley Quinn could bring Poison Ivy or possibly Catwoman to set up for Gotham City Sirens. Renee Montoya automatically brings into question, The Question. Although we love all of the those DC characters; there’s only one cameo we want to see, Barbra Gordon. After all, there are no Birds of Prey without the Oracle.
