10 actresses who could play Zatanna in the DCEU

2. Margaret Qualley

Margaret Qualley is a relative unknown unless you watched her play a troubled teen in Leftovers. For starters, Qualley does have the look to pull off Zatanna. Her eyes are hypnotic and the paleness in her skin works well as a contrast with her dark hair, which is very similar to some versions of Zatanna.

Moreover, Qualley is already on Warner Bros. radar. Qualley’s name surfaced as a candidate for Huntress in Birds of Prey. The role ultimately went to Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Still, there’s a chance that Warner Bros. and Walter Hamada still have her on their radar. If she impressed them well enough, I can see why they’d pick her for Zatanna.

Qualley also stared in Netflix’s Death Note as Mia, where she was a bright spot in a film that needed it. Her character was a sociopath, who adored the powers of the notebook. She was dark and deranged, and Qualley nailed it.

While her character wasn’t very Zatanna like, the dark tone of Death Note was a seamless fit for Qualley. And, that same dark tone is likely something the DCEU wants for a Zatanna solo movie.

She has star potential and playing Zatanna would give her the audience she deserves. At 24, she’s old enough to tackle mature material and young enough to see us follow a teenage Zatanna into adulthood.
