The Fandom 250 list has some familiar names and a few surprises.

The 2018 Fandom 250 list here. The Fandom 250 ranks the best 250 fan bases in genres like sports, movies, television, and, of course, comic books.

Comic Books have gone from a small subsection of fans to a global phenomenon. They remain some of the most passionate whether they just got on the boat or have been sailing the ship for years.

2017 Fandom 250 had more than a few comic book names. This year, 21 of the 250 spots were comic book related. Eight of them broke the top 100 and one was even in the top 5. Here are the list of comic book topics that made the list and where they were ranked.

The popular choices

Some of the names on here aren’t a shocker at all, as Black Panther, Avengers, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash are all popular.

Wonder Woman will always be a great representation of powerful and intelligent women. Batman has been one of the most popular characters for decades. Avengers is coasting on Infinity War and their new comic book series (written by Jason Aaron). Black Panther broke all kinds of box office records worldwide. The Flash also remains one of the more popular shows on TV and not just among comic book readers.

The surprises

While Spider-Man didn’t have a major movie in 2018, he did have more than a few memorable roles in Avengers: Infinity War. Plus, his new start in comics helped regain some of his popularity in Marvel Comics. (Check out Mike McNulty for reviews on Amazing Spider-Man.)

Jason Mamoa has become a fan favorite from his antics. He became meme after sneaking up on Henry Cavill on a red carpet and he’s been active at cons making jokes, taking pictures, and laughing with fans. It doesn’t hurt that he’s insanely attractive to boot.

It was shocking to see Chadwick Boseman on this list. Despite being the star in Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger stole and the women of Wakanda were the talk of the town. It may have been his appearance on Saturday Night Live that put him on the list.

Maybe the biggest shocker was seeing Stan Lee so low. Everyone loves Lee. His cameos in movies and his happy demeanor always put a smile on everyone’s face. After his passing, fans took to all social media outlets sharing stories of meeting him and how they influenced comic books and their lives. When Bill Maher attacked his legacy, he was immediately met with various articles and tweets talking about how wrong he was.

2019’s list will absolutely have some of the same names. Aquaman will keep Jason Momao here, Avengers 4 will probably rank Chris Evans, Pine, Pratt and Hemsworth higher, and Harley Quinn is so popular she may never leave. What newcomers and breakout characters will make the list next year?
