Best Arrowverse episodes – No. 27

The Good, the Bad and the Cuddly (Legends of Tomorrow season 3 episode 18)

When you’re producing a show that does crazy on a regular basis, continually upping the ante might seem like an impossible task. That is, unless you’re the showrunners of Legends of Tomorrow, of course.

Much like the aforementioned “Legends of To-Meow-Meow,” the Season 3 finale was a litany of crazy, and if you look back at the show’s progression, you might just find that this was the moment where the writers officially let go of their inhibitions and just threw everything they had at Legends.

“The Good, the Bad and the Cuddly” was the culmination of a season-long arc, which saw ancient time-demon Mallus released from his cage (following the possession of Nora Darhk). But this wasn’t just any old demon, it was a hellish gargoyle-like creature with a deadly glare and huge wingspan. And after the Waverider’s first captain, Rip Hunter, sacrificed himself to delay the creature and Damien Darhk did the same to free his daughter, it was pretty clear that the Legends would have to come up with a more permanent solution to take the beast down.

Using the six totems of Zambesi, they concocted up their very own pure-of-heart warrior to take on the demon – that warrior was none other than Beebo. And in one of the most visually bizarre moments in television history, the two entities did battle for the fate of time, with the beloved doll winning out.

Whoever pitched the idea of “hellish gargoyle vs. furry doll in the Old West” deserves a raise. On paper, it sounds even a little too out-there for Legends, but in reality, it was nothing short of golden. Words can’t do it justice, but it was, for lack of a better one, legendary.
