Best Arrowverse episodes – No. 23

Welcome To Earth-2 (The Flash season 2 episode 13)

The introduction of Zoom in The Flash‘s second season opened the Arrowverse up to infinite possibilities. The time-traveling monster did not originate on this Earth and thus, his sudden arrival (and the arrival of various doppelgängers) caught Team Flash off-guard. But it didn’t take the geniuses at S.T.A.R. Labs long to discover the existence of the multiverse and, as a result, we found ourselves eager to find out more about the mysterious parallel dimension known as Earth-2.

From Harry Wells to Zoom himself, Team Flash was surrounded by Earth-2 at the beginning of the season, but it wasn’t until the second half when they finally got the opportunity to travel there for a special two-part adventure – and what an unforgettable adventure it was.

Following their arrival, Barry soon realized that, while things looked familiar, everything was different there. On Earth-2, Barry Allen was an even dorkier, highly-strung, C.S.I. with a questionable fashion sense – and he was married to Iris. Speaking of Iris, she was a detective while her father, Joe, was a singer. Caitlin and Ronnie were the villains Killer Frost and Deathstorm while Cisco was the criminal Reverb – all three of whom worked for Zoom.

From the characters’ vintage clothing to the golden filter applied to all Earth-2 scenes, both Earth-2-based episodes were undoubtedly the most aesthetically pleasing outings that the show has ever produced. It felt like we were watching a comic book take form right before our eyes.

The introduction of Earth-2 has shaped so much of the Arrowverse, with Harry a semi-regular member of Team Flash and Black Siren now Star City’s District Attorney, and none of that would have been possible without this amazing episode (and its equally as amazing follow-up).
