Comic Book characters ready for Mortal Kombat 11
By Mark Lynch
These comic book characters are perfect for Mortal Kombat 11.
Throughout the history of video games, Mortal Kombat has emerged as one of the most popular and most endearing video game series of all time. Many thought the series would end when its original developer, Midway Games, closed in 2009, but the franchise was sold to Warner Bros. Entertainment and found new life at NeatherRealm Studios. Over the years, the game has continued to evolve by upgrading it’s story mode, gamplay, and gory visuals and violence. Adding things like new brutalities, fatalities, and X-ray moves has helped to keep their core audience entertained. It was recently announced that the newest installment (Mortal Kombat 11) will be coming out in April of 2019.
Downloadable content has become a popular (and expected) aspect of video games. Adding new clothes and stages as you progress gives people a reason to keep playing and continue the fun. Most fighting games have started adding new fighters who wouldn’t normally wouldn’t crossover into their universe. For example, Injustice 2 (also a NetherRealm game) added characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sub-Zero and Raiden of Mortal Kombat, and Hellboy. With this, there are some other comic book characters I think would be perfect for Mortal Kombat 11.

Everyone loves to play as Batman. He has all the cool moves, gadgets, and seemingly perfectly balanced stats. Too bad Batman can’t be a part of Mortal Kombat since he has a strict rule of not killing. The good news is Mortal Kombat wouldn’t be shackled by the constraints of only using characters in the normal DC Universe. They could venture over to a realm where Bruce Wayne is a frightening combination of Joker and Batman.
The Batman who laughs could have all of the moves that Batman had in the Injustice series with more brutality. He cold also call on his Robins that are chained up as an attacks. This would also eliminate the need to add cliche characters like the Joker since you’re getting Batman and Joker wrapped up in one crazy package. He would easily be a favorite.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a welcomed surprise to Injustice 2. It was a also a great surprise that they all had some of the same moves, but a lot of personalized combos and special attacks based on their weapons and personalities. Some people may look at this and think there is no chance that the Ninja Turtles would be in a game like this. Well, the funny thing is, while they may have a wholesome and kid friendly image now, this wasn’t always the case.
When the Ninja Turtles first came on the scene, they killed Shredder. When the cartoon in the 2000s premiered, you could see that they were willing and able to kill. This wouldn’t be a shocker to see Raphael or Leonardo in this game. They are the two who are most likely to kill so their brothers won’t have to. It would be great to see how they’d interact with Scorpion and Johnny Cage.

Wonder Woman
Superman and Batman may not kill, but Wonder Woman has no qualms about it. She’s trained most of her life to be a warrior, and she excels at it. It doesn’t matter she’s fighting hand to hand or using her sword and shield (and sometimes her tiara), Wonder Woman is a force to be reckoned with. It also helps that she has superhuman strength.
First off, I could see Wonder Woman fighting in the tournament. She may not enjoy the senseless killing, but she would enjoy the chance to show how good she is. She is one of the most brutal fighters in any genre and could be the most used character in Mortal Kombat 11. They should ride on the popularity that Wonder Woman has gained over the last few years. I could see Raiden, Sonya Blade, and Cassie would appreciating and loving her in their pre-fight altercations.

Superman has been the epitome of a boy scout, as he follows the rules to the letter and does his best to save everyone. This isn’t that Superman. This is an Earth where everything he loved was destroyed. Following this, Superman went from boy scout to tyrant. He ruled the world through fear and killed anyone who stepped out of line. He even murdered a warehouse full of people for protesting him.
This may work perfectly. Aside from him being a great character to choose from, he’s also been featured in another NetherRealm series, Injustice. Adding Superman from Injustice could be a promotion for both of the studio’s games. Since most of the fighters in Mortal Kombat use magic in some way, the possibility of Superman losing isn’t far-fetched. Also, since there was a comic book crossover between Injustice and He-Man, it wouldn’t be out of the question to have a Mortal Kombat and Injustice crossover, as well. It’s also worth mentioning that the two franchises already collided in 2009’s Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Midway’s last game before shutting down.

Deathstroke
Slade Wilson may be the best assassin in any genre. He rarely fails to kill his mark and remains completely professional throughout the job (looking at you, Deadpool). Deathstroke has taken on the Justice League and held them to a standstill. He’s also one of Batman’s fiercest opponents. There aren’t many people in any world that could beat Deathstroke in a fight.
You’d be hard pressed to find a character that fits better in Mortal Kombat. He could have taken a job from one of the elder gods, looking to expand his brand by winning the tournament, or his target might be fighting. Regardless, Slade is a great choice. He also has an extensive amount of blades and guns. This means he could have attacks up close and personal or at a distance. A little something for everyone.

Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn remains one of the most popular characters in pop culture. Her upbeat and bubbly attitude, weird sense of humor, along with her brutal fighting style made her famous seemingly overnight. What’s kept her in the spotlight is her constant evolution. Thankfully, writers have been going with her positive relationship with Poison Ivy and leaving the abusive one with Joker behind.
Harley Quinn is one of the most brutal people in the DC Universe. She may not have the fighting skills of Batman, but the unpredictability in her fighting style, along with the creativity she exerts with her gymnastic skill, make her a tough opponent. Mortal Kombat’s game developers could have a field day designing her combos, X-Ray moves, brutalities, and fatalities. Her giant mallet, guns, and props are just some of the things Harley would use to pummel her opponents. Out of everyone on this list, she is the one person I think could be a lock for Mortal Kombat 11.
