Marvel Studios released the first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer on Tuesday.

Peter Parker may have died at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, but his journey through the MCU is far from over. He’s coming back to save the day in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The follow-up to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming takes Peter out of his comfort zone by having him go to Europe for his summer vacation.

Of course, even in his downtime, things are never easy for the young superhero. This time, he comes across Mysterio, a fan-favorite villain from the Marvel Universe played by Jake Gyllenhaal. The movie swings into theaters in July, 2019, and with 2018 almost over, Sony has released its first trailer for Spidey’s next adventure.

I don’t know about you, but I’m glad to see Spider-Man in action as opposed to, you know, turning into dust.

Stakes seem to be higher for the wall-crawler. He’s away from home, and has to deal with a deadly villain. Speaking of evil-doers, the person who’ll be Spidey’s main pain in the neck this time around is Mysterio, played by the ever-fascinating Jake Gyllenhaal.

Interestingly, the actor’s involvement in the film remained a mystery for a long time. Ever since it was revealed that he was in talks to star in Far From Home, neither Marvel nor Sony had officially confirmed his casting.

Things changed earlier in December. The actor made his Instagram debut with a hilarious video that saw him reading a Spider-Man comic book featuring Mysterio. After reading it, the actor put down the comic and jokingly expressed his surprise at the fact that he’s not playing Peter Parker.

Mysterio is a fascinating villain. He uses his experience in special effects to play tricks on Spider-Man and gain the upper hand during their conflicts. His power set is one that hasn’t really been explored in the superhero live-action genre, so I’m looking forward to seeing Spidey’s abilities against his.

This trailer keeps the upbeat and most importantly, down-to-earth tone of its predecessor. Yes, things are much different this time around for Peter Parker as a person. He’s already battled his first big bad, has travelled to another planet to fight an intergalactic titan and ended up dying. Yet, despite these larger-than-life challenges, the story still feels as realistic as the majority of Spider-Man stories from the comics.
