Insomniac Games director teases Spider-Man PS4 sequel in development

Spider-Man PS4 was one of the most beloved video games of 2018. Insomniac Games seems to suggest that a sequel is already in development — or at least, that’s the way it looks so far.

2018 was Spider-Man’s year. Between his appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, the beloved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Spider-Man PS4, there was no shortage of Spidey-themed experiences. Thankfully, it seems like the renewed interest in the character isn’t going away anytime soon — a sequel to the game may already be in development, according to a cryptic tweet by Insomniac Games’ Creative Director, Bryan Intihar.

Intihar tweeted about to revealing a new “story draft” for what we can only assume is a new Insomniac project, accompanied by a GIF of a sweating Jordan Peele. Could this be the first draft for Spider-Man PS4’s sequel? Intihar headed up the first game as director and was very outspoken during the game’s marketing cycle. It would make perfect sense for him to try to build some excitement for the sequel with a cryptic tweet — or for whatever project that it is referring to.

Nothing has been confirmed just yet — neither Bryan Intihar nor Insomniac has made any comments in regards to the tweet, but the Twitter thread is brimming with hopeful Spidey fans nonetheless. Spider-Man PS4 is still getting tons of attention from players — between the photo mode that has fans sharing their epic moments and the various downloadable content packs up for sale, the game seems to have a solid lifespan. However, the story does leave tons of loose ends for a sequel, so here’s hoping that another game is in development or in the concept stages at the very least.

If a sequel is truly underway, then it is likely a ways off. Considering that next-gen consoles are rumored to drop as early as next year — and the obvious fact that it can take years to create a video game — the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man probably isn’t coming anytime soon, especially if Insomniac wants to release it on new hardware. Who knows — maybe they’re preparing for another Ratchet and Clank game or something. Sure, that’s exciting, but the world needs more Spider-Man PS4.

dark. Next. Doctor Strange writer returning for sequel

Of course, Inhitar’s words could be nothing more than a vague tweet with no implications to Spider-Man PS4 at all. Given the circumstances though, this has to be teasing something big. Whether it is actually Spider-Man’s sequel or another Insomniac Games project, he’s got the gaming community excited.
