How could Erik Killmonger return in Black Panther 2? And is this a good idea?
Erik Killmonger was one of (if not the) most popular characters in 2018’s blockbuster Black Panther and maybe of all the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His attitude, style, and dominance attracted people to him. Some people even believe his plan should have gone through. Because of his popularity, people were disappointed when he died at the end of the movie. During the Screen Actors Guild Awards, ET’s Nischelle Turner asked Angela Bassett and her husband, Courtney B. Vance, if “everyone”would be returning in Black Panther 2. While Angela Bassett said, “I assume so.” Her husband cut her off saying, “Yes, just go ahead and say it, yes! Everyone will be there, including Michael B.”
There may be nothing to this at all. Actors can get excited about things and make comments. Also, since it didn’t come from Angela Bassett (who’s a member of the Black Panther cast) this report should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it’s not too far off that Killmonger could return in the sequel.
"“Bury me in the ocean, with my ancestors that jumped from the ships, because they knew death was better than bondage.”-Erik Killmonger"
Killmonger was killed when T’Challa stabbed him in the chest in their final fight scene. Before he died, T’Challa let him know that he could save him. After Killmonger’s iconic, “Bury me in the ocean” line, we all assumed that T’Challa granted Killmonger’s wish and let him die. There’s no guarantee that he didn’t save him, since we didn’t see a dead body.

T’Challa already felt terrible about killing Killmonger, despite everything he did. He believed Erik should have been taken to Wakanda after his father was killed. Since T’Challa is a noble man, he may have rushed him to get medical attention. If Shuri can fix Everett Ross’ bullet wound, it shouldn’t be a difficult task for her to heal Killmonger, especially since Erik’s body has been upgraded with the heart-shaped herb. There’s also another way for Killmonger to come back. We’ve seen T’Challa and Killmonger travel to the land of the dead. Who’s to say that a shaman can’t bring the dead back? This could be how an incredible villain named Tatu could be introduced in the MCU.

Bringing Killomnger back is a smart idea, considering how popular he was. Fans will rejoice to get another movie with him in it. His return will also cause conflict within the Wakanda. T’Challa told his people that the man who caused all the pain and death in Wakanda was killed by his hand. If we they find out T’Challa lied, this will cause everyone in Wakanda to no longer trust him. However, it will make for an incredible story. Also, their last fight scene was completely forgettable. They’d get a do-over and make it something special.
The one negative thing that could come out of this is bringing people back from the dead could become normal in the MCU. Resurrection has become a regular thing in comic books. This could start a trend that would make death’s in comic book movies irrelevant. This takes away the feeling of knowing this person isn’t coming back.
While it would be nice to see him back, his return should be done in a way that won’t make the audience mad about how he returned. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow for more news on Black Panther.
