Marvel TV and Hulu are bringing four adult animated shows to the small screen, including a new adaptation of Howard the Duck.
Marvel Television is dabbling in a number of genres with their current roster of shows. From the teen drama Runaways to the psychological thriller that is Legion, they’re really experimenting with different kinds of storytelling. Now, the studio is about to step into the world of adult animation.
Variety reports that Marvel TV and Hulu are joining forces to create four new adult-oriented animated series’. The characters of Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler will all receive shows. The oddball characters will then team up in a crossover titled, The Offenders. Aside from Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb serving as executive producer on the shows, each project already has a creative team.
Marvel’s Howard the Duck is being written and directed by none other than superfan Kevin Smith, along with Dave Willis. The official description for the show describes the titular character as fighting evil in a world where he’s not meant to be. This will be the character’s first headlining project since the panned 1986 film.

Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show will be headed by Erica Rivinoja and Chelsea Handler, and will focus on the adventures of two woke, superhero friends. Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., which will finally bring the big-headed supervillain his time in the limelight, is being written by comedian Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum. And Marvel’s Hit-Monkey is being penned by writers Josh Gordon and Will Speck and will focus on the adventures of a scorned Japanese snow monkey, who hilariously seeks vengeance in the Tokyo underworld. As of right now, release dates have not been revealed for the upcoming series’.
These shows are very bold choices, but they could be smart moves in the long run. Audiences have been asking for new material within the superhero genre and adult animated shows with niche characters could be just want they’ve been looking for.
