The Loki series being developed by Disney finally has its head writer and showrunner. Potential Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War lie ahead.

Coming off the heels of Cartoon Network’s popular animated series, Rick and Morty , Michael Waldron has worked on several other Dan Harmon shows, including Community and HarmonQuest. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waldron will now be writing the pilot and serving as executive producer on the Loki TV series.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Waldron’s comedy background seeps into the series. He will still be working as a writer at Rick and Morty and is working on another comedy pilot for Paramount TV called Florida Man.

With Loki’s apparent death in Avengers: Infinity War, it is speculated where and when the series will take place. Some sources say it will feature the God of Mischief sporadically injecting himself into historical events, like an evil Dr. Who, but nothing has been confirmed by Marvel or Disney, yet.

It’ll also be interesting to see whether the events of the Thor series will play a part in the show. Maybe we’ll get to see some X-Men: Days of Future Past-esque retellings of history. With all human history to play around with, the Loki series could explore a multitude of different stories.

Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as Loki in the series. The show was announced back in November 2018 and is set to premiere on Disney’s long promised streaming channel, Disney Plus. With several Marvel shows set to appear on Disney Plus, it appears that the MCU will be expanding its branches even further into other mediums.

While the announcement of a showrunner is an interesting new development, there is still a lot up in the air for these Disney Plus shows. It hasn’t been specified whether these shows will be limited or how many episodes to expect per season. Other Marvel shows in development with Disney include The Vision and Scarlett Witch and the Falcon/Winter Soldier series.
