A new tie-in novel called Starforce on the Rise has revealed the true identity of  Jude Law’s character in Captain Marvel.

With Marvel Studios’ first standalone female-led superhero film, Captain Marvel, about to make its debut in cinemas on March 8, the marketing campaign has already kicked into fifth gear, with various trailers and marketing material hitting the web. More recently, there is now clearer and more concise confirmation regarding the character Jude Law is actually playing in the film.

Law will be playing the character, Yon-Rogg, as revealed in the official tie-in novel titled Starforce on the Rise by Steve Behling. The actor has been very coy about his casting, which has once been believed to be the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell, based on the character that appeared in Marvel Superheroes No.12 by Stan Lee and Gene Colan. Law voided naming the character, as explained on Screen Rant, after which speculation began to grow over the character’s identity.

Published under Marvel Press, Starforce on the Rise, introduces readers to Starforce, who are an elite Kree militaristic team and strike-force. In the story, it is discovered that Yon-Rogg is not only a Starforce Commander who works with the Supreme Intelligence, but Starforce is clearly his pet-project. While Carol Danvers A.K.A. Captain Marvel (known as Vers) is his newest recruit, she is undoubtedly one of the most powerful members. Starforce also consists of Korath, Att-Lass, Bron-Char and Minn-Erva.

In the comics, Yon-Rogg is an enemy of Mar-Vell and is directly responsible for Danvers’ transformation into Captain Marvel. Whether he actually is within the film is hard to say, but the fact most of the members of Starforce were known villains of Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers leads Screen Rant and other media outlets to believe the Skrulls may not be the only villains in the movie.
