3. A Hero of Latino Decent

At the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos had already possessed the power stone before he attacked Thor and the rest of the Asgardians. Once Thor was rescued by the Guardians of the Galaxy, he revealed that Thanos destroyed the planet Xandar in an effort to obtain the first infinity stone.

When planet Xandar was first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, it was a foregone conclusion that Nova would eventually appear in the MCU. The theory was further solidified when the destruction of Xandar happened offscreen. Kevin Feige later stated that the character of Nova has “Immediate potential.” While Nova would most likely appear in a cosmic movie like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 before his solo outing, would Marvel Studios elect to pick Sam Alexander over Richard Ryder’s Nova to naturally bring Latino representation to the MCU?

Sam Alexander is the son of a Latina homemaker and a former Nova Corps Officer. He first appeared in Marvel Point One No. 1 in 2011. While the MCU is moving more towards cosmic movies and diversity, Sam Alexander’s version of Nova fits both labels. Also, with the overwhelming support of Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Shang-Chi, Latino representation should be next on the list.

If Marvel still elects to go with Richard Ryder’s Nova, Miss America/America Chavez could be the first Latina in the MCU.
