Captain Marvel: Here’s who’s dead and still alive by the end of the movie
We explore the most notable deaths and survivors of Captain Marvel. Spoilers follow.
The MCU’s first female-led superhero movie has landed in theaters. Captain Marvel is Marvel Studios’ 21st entry in its wide film universe, but even though it’s a brand new installment, some old MCU players made solid returns. Characters like Nick Fury, Phil Coulson and even Ronan the Accuser had some interesting scenes. Nevertheless, the film also introduced new characters that are sure to become fan favorites after repeat viewings of the movie. Unfortunately, though, not all of these characters made it out of Captain Marvel alive. Without further ado, here are the characters that survived the film and the not-so-lucky ones.
Phil Coulson (Dead and Alive)
Coulson is introduced as a rookie agent in Captain Marvel, serving under Nick Fury’s command. When Carol Danvers crash-lands on Earth along with the Skrulls, one of the shapeshifting aliens takes on the form of Agent Coulson. It is only after Nick Fury crashes his car and kills the Skrull that we find out that Coulson had been impersonated by an alien. So where was Coulson while the Skrull was in the car with Fury? Stuck in a Blockbuster, looking for his boss.
Yon-Rogg (Alive)
Played by Jude Law, Yon-Rogg was revealed to be the real villain of the film and master manipulator of Carol Danvers. After Carol discovers the truth, she confronts Yon-Rogg and defeats him with a single energy blast. While the blast didn’t kill him, it left him injured and weak. Carol placed him on a Kree ship and sent him back to Hala with a message for the Supreme Intelligence.
Minn-Erva (Dies)
One of Captain Marvel’s most notable villains in the comics, Minn-Erva was played by Gemma Chan in the movie. Despite her long history with Carol in the comics, Minn-Erva was killed rather spontaneously in the film. While chasing Maria Rambeau and Nick Fury on a Kree spaceship, Minn-Erva was shot down by the former, her Kree ship blowing up in the process.

Ronan the Accuser and Korath (Alive)
Of course, both Ronan the Accuser and Korath survived the film, since they go on to fight another day in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. We all know things don’t end well for them in that film, though.
Mar-Vell (Dies)
In an interesting twist, it is revealed in the film that Annette Bening plays the original Captain Marvel from the comics, Mar-Vell. While on Earth, she experimented on the Tesseract to create a lightspeed engine. When Yon-Rogg attempted to steal the engine, Carol intervened and destroyed the device, which in turn infused her with Space Stone energy. Before this though, Yon-Rogg shot and killed Mar-Vell.
Carol Danvers and Talos (Alive)
Leader of a group of Skrulls in Captain Marvel, Talos and his comrades were revealed to be refugees in search of a home rather than secret invaders. By the end of the movie, he and Carol leave towards the cosmos in the hope of ending the Kree-Skrull war.
Others Still Alive: Nick Fury, The Rambeau Family, Goose the Cat
Nick Fury survived the film, but we can’t say the same for one of his eyes. Monica and Maria Rambeau also survived, as well as for our favorite alien cat, Goose.
With Captain Marvel set in the ’90s, it’s anyone’s guess if any of the film’s surviving characters are alive and well in the present day. It’s even more uncertain, considering Thanos’ snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Perhaps some of these questions will be answered in next month’s Avengers: Endgame. But what do you think?
