Captain Marvel: What does the future hold for the Skrulls?

After Captain Marvel, what’s next for the Skrull Empire in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The following contains spoilers.

Captain Marvel flew high at the box office, raking in $153 million over the weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Captain Marvel became the biggest box office premier for a female lead and second-largest for a comic book movie (take that, angry internet trolls). More proof that not only is the world ready for more female leads, that they are marketable. The movie featured a popular Marvel Comics alien race called the Skrulls. The trailers portrayed them as the main antagonists, but that wasn’t the case in Captain Marvel.

In the comic books, the Skrulls are a warrior race that conquers worlds and makes them part of their empire. In this movie they were refugees in need of help. This made the audience sympathetic to their cause. That may be the case now, but don’t expect this to remain true.

Some of the Skrulls are zealots who blindly follow their sacred text. In one of those texts, it was written that they would take over a world like Earth and because they believe God is on their side, they’ll go after what they believe they deserve. These Skrulls believe it is their destiny to save the people of Earth from themselves even if it means that they have to kill the non-believers in the process. It’s believable that this will be the case in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Skrulls are easily one of Marvel Comics’ greatest villains. We saw what they can do with only their shape-shifting powers, imagine what happens when they invent the Super-Skrull. The Super-Skrull has the power of four beings in one Skrull. The Original (Kl’rt) has the powers of the Fantastic Four. During the invasion of Earth, they started to give their new Super Skrulls powers ranging from the best like Dr. Strange and Thor to lesser powered beings like Bullseye and Hammerhead. This could lead to the Secret Invasion arc that fans have been hoping to see.

Next. Why a Captain Marvel sequel should tackle the war genre. dark

There is a ton of money to be made in a war with the Skrulls. The people of Earth in an intense battle while being outnumbered five to one against an armada of beings with powers with little hope of winning would be great to see. Planning for a war with the Skrulls could lead to projects showing how this plan has been activated for years. They believe in their cause so much it wouldn’t be unlike them to destroy their planet or kill some of their people to gain Earth. Having this planned out for so long also shows how intelligent, dedicated, and willing to win they are. There’s almost no way the Skrulls don’t end up as villains in the MCU.
