In every drama series, there’s that one supporting character who is called in to put out fires and help the main characters out of sticky situations. On Riverdale, that’s Josie’s mother and former mayor, Sierra McCoy.
As an attorney and revered political figure, Sierra holds more power than viewers might realize. Who else would our young, hapless heroes turn to when they need a legal perspective the town’s very own formidable leader?
Before stepping down from her political post, right in time to avoid Hiram’s haunting overhaul, Sierra stood up to the various horrors plaguing the town.
Following the ending of her term as mayor, Sierra helps Betty through a legal matter regarding Alice draining her bank account and aides Betty’s investigation of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. Also, she merged two powerful Riverdale figures with her marriage to former sheriff and Kevin’s father Tom Keller.
Robin Givens embodies all of Sierra McCoy’s confidence to perfection, and even peels back the layers of her insecurities that she projects onto Josie. While she’s much more supportive of Josie’s musical ambitions than her ex-husband, Sierra still pushes and pressures her daughter to reach sometimes unattainable heights.
But through it all, including the madness of the Midnight Club’s reunion, Sierra has developed into a kinder person and a character whose importance is often take for granted.
