Sony has lengthy plans for Spider-Man TV shows and movies
After the success of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Sony has media plans for almost the next decade for its web-crawler.
Good news for Into the Spider-Verse fans and possibly bad news for Venom haters, Sony has announced plans to push several Spider-Man-related movies and TV shows over the next seven-to-eight years.
Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman, Tony Viniciquerra has said, per an interview with Variety:
"“We have the next seven or eight years laid out as to what we’re going to do with that asset, and that will not only be on the film side — it’ll be on the TV side. Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop.”"
Viniciquerra revealed the plans with Hulu chief Mike Hopkins, which means Hulu will likely be developing a lot of these shows. Hulu already has its hand in several upcoming Marvel programs, including a series based on the character M.O.D.O.K. and one based on Howard the Duck.

“We’re developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we’ll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us,” said Hopkins.
Sony has expressed interest in doing spin-off shows based on Into the Spider-Verse characters but have given little details. It may be interesting to see a 1920s period show starring Spider-Man Noir, or an action-packed sci-fi adventure with Peni Parker. Though, with the 2009 deal of Sony selling TV rights for Spider-Man to Marvel, this could prove to be tough. A deal with Marvel would have to be struck for Sony to do any television shows based on Spider-Man characters.
There hasn’t been mention of any official movie or TV plans for the Spider-Man universe, but with over 900 different characters to choose from anything could be over the horizon. Who knows? Maybe we will even get a Silver Sable TV show, or a return of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
