Avengers: Endgame is set to feature a number of characters, but the original Avengers will be the primary focus.
Avengers: Infinity War featured various characters scattered across different corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a result, some veteran characters like Captain America and Hawkeye played smaller roles or didn’t appear at all. But those hoping to see more of the veteran Avengers are sure to be happy when they see Endgame.
Speaking to Empire Magazine (via ComicBook.com), Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige acknowledged the relatively small roles the original, six heroes played in Infinity War. However, he also the highly anticipated sequel and discussed the important roles the veteran Avengers will play:
“People would point out that Cap wasn’t in Infinity War a whole lot. And Iron Man didn’t really speak for that last half hour because of what was going on. But those characters, and all of the original six, are very much the focus of Endgame in a very personal and emotional way.”
After witnessing the shocking ending of Infinity War, many fans could begin to see what Marvel was planning. Although Thanos’ infamous snap dusted newer characters like Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Spider-Man, it left behind all of the original Avengers. Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton Hawkeye may not have appeared in the movie, but leaked set photos confirmed his presence (and survival) in the upcoming sequel.
The subsequent marketing for Endgame has also put considerable emphasis on the veteran heroes. For instance, a large portion of the latest trailer featured flashbacks from early MCU films like Iron Man and Captain America: The First Avenger.
It’s clear to see the MCU is about to experience a significant changing of the guard. And with the veteran characters likely on their way out, it’s only fitting that Endgame would be a final adventure for the six that started it all. This will undoubtedly add yet another layer to the emotional heft of the film.
What the creatives have planned for these heroes is anyone’s guess, but based on the marketing, it’s shaping up to be an epic and memorable send-off. Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters on April 26th.
