Will the dreaded Dormammu become the new Galactus?

Are Galactus and Dormammu becoming one?

Marvel Comics has combined characters before. During the Infinity Wars series, there were spinoffs called “Infinity Warps,” in which characters like Captain America and Dr. Strange combined to make Soldier Supreme, and Spider-Man and Moon Knight combined to make Arachknight. In 2017,  there was the debut of Weapon H who physically resembles the Hulk but also has Wolverine’s adamantium claws. And lets not forget Hulked out Heroes. Actually, let’s forget that happened. During the Marvel Comics solicitations  for June of 2019, Comicbook.com reported something major. It looks like we’ll be getting yet another combination of characters. On the cover of a Dr. Strange comic Dormammu was wearing Galactus’ armor!

Writer Mark Waid said,

"“Along with editor Nick Lowe, we’ve come up with some new and very unexpected places to take Stephen Strange in the Marvel Universe – starting with the stars. When Strange’s magic suddenly exhausts itself, he’ll have to travel off-earth to recharge his batteries. Let’s hope he survives the trip.”"

This is definitely one of the stranger (pun intended) mash-ups we’ve seen in a long time. It seems goofy to put the two of them together, but this offers a lot of possibilities. If Dr. Strange is going to have to recharge himself, there’s no way Dormammu doesn’t look at this as an opportunity to go after the man who has constantly thwarted his plans. So it makes sense that Dormammu would go after one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Plus, since Dr. Strange is powered down, having him defeat this combination would make him look stronger than ever.

It’s doubtful that Galactus would form a partnership with Dormammu that allows him to inhabit his body. First off, Galactus knows he doesn’t need anyone. He’s been defeating beings since the universe was in its infancy. Second, Galactus wouldn’t trust Dormammu. He’s aware that someone like Dormammu wouldn’t honor any unity they agreed on. He’d take the first opportunity he had to take over Galactus’ body forever. However, if Dormammu’s energy sustained Galactus’ hunger or if he found a way to get out of that curse, this could give him the incentive he needed to stop being the Devourer of Worlds.

Who knows exactly why this is happening. It’s doubtful that Marvel is going to make this a permanent thing, especially since Marvel has made it a point to put things back the way they were like with the Fantastic Four, Cyclops, and Wolverine’s return. This will most likely be another trial Dr. Strange will have to pass to prove his worth as Sorcerer Supreme. Stay tuned to find out what happens.
