Marvel teased the return of Jonathan Hickman for a title dated this July that he is writing for the publisher.

Marvel has teased the return of superstar writer, Jonathan Hickman, as confirmed by CBR. At present Hickman is tied with an unknown book set for July of this year. After a four-year-long hiatus since the 2015 Secret Wars event, which reshaped the Marvel Multiverse of Earth-616 and Earth-1610 into one ‘Prime’ Marvel Universe, Hickman was away, but most definitely not forgotten.

Announced for the line-up within this week’s comics, Marvel had teased the comic writer’s last name “Hickman” in a Courier typewriter font and superimposed the name upon a blank, gray-scale image with the date baring the summer month and current year above the black and white version of the iconic publisher’s logo. The bare-boned teaser unveiled this short premise:

Very intriguing to say the least. Aside from a reveal covered by Bleeding Cool, that Mark Waid is writing a new six-issue series dubbed The History of the Marvel Universe, the untitled major event sounded quite the high concept, which is usually Hickman’s style and quite exploratory in nature. Could the species be Homo Superior (mutants) and Inhumans or entirely new specie(s) altogether? Not much is certain, but expect some answers as to what book it actually is anytime between the end of April to June.

Behind such creator-owned works at Image Comics such as dystopian sci-fi Western, East of West and the Eisner-nominated The Nightly News, Hickman really began to shine with his run on The Fantastic Four and The Avengers. He also took the character of Ultimate Reed Richards (Earth-1610) to a dark heel-turn and created the alias of The Maker and his Children of Tomorrow, who is possibly the most formidable villain and sometimes anti-hero in the Marvel Universe behind Magneto and Doctor Doom.
