Angelina Jolie in talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals

A new report suggests that Angelina Jolie could be getting ready to make her superhero movie debut in The Eternals for Marvel.

Angelina Jolie has always been a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. Which is why it is so perplexing and surprising to think she has never starred in a superhero movie — the hottest sub-genre of film right now — for Marvel, DC or another property.

The closest she ever came to starring in one was when she played Fox in an adaptation of the Marc Milar comic book mini-series, Wanted. However, since Wanted lacked the fantastical elements of classic superhero tropes like, say, a Superman story (i.e. vibrant spandex), few would be quick to call that one a superhero movie.

Well, it looks like Jolie hopes to finally pop her superhero movie cherry and plans to do so with Marvel at the helm. Per a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actress is currently in talks to star in Marvel’s The Eternals. As of this writing, it is unknown which part she could be playing and Marvel have yet to comment on the matter.

For those not familiar with the original Jack Kirby source material, The Eternals focuses on near-immortal beings – they are capable of dying if injured, but can also live forever – as they are locked into a war with their far more destructive counterparts, The Deviants. Both sub-sets of immortals were created by cosmic beings known as Celestials.

Most news regarding the shooting process for the film is being kept under a tight-knit secret. What we do know is that the film will be directed by Chloe Zhao. Zhao is best known for directing and writing the Sundance indie hit, Songs My Brother Taught Me, as well as for directing The Rider, which she won a C.I.C.A.E. Award for at the Cannes Film Festival.
