5 actors who could play Hawkman in ‘Black Adam’

The script for Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has been written, and it seems to include a few unlikely additions to the cast. One of these additions is his old sparring partner Hawkman.

Hawkman has been a trusted member of the Justice League for years, and it seems that he is finally up for a big screen debut. Not only does he fight crime alongside the likes of Superman and Wonder Woman, but he has also been known to trade blows with Black Adam from time-to-time.

With the screenplay reportedly written, the speculation as of now is that Hawkman will be the main antagonist of the film, as it is set from the point of view of the villainous Black Adam. And the studio is searching for someone who can match muscle with the likes of “The Rock.” However, that is no easy task.

There are plenty of actors who could throw on a hawk mask and be thrust into the role, but finding someone who is in as good of shape as Dwayne Johnson is seldom. But there might be a handful of actors that may be up to the task, and it would not be surprising if one of them makes their way to the DCEU.

1. Theo James

Theo James is most notably known for his time in the Divergent series, and has managed to stay in fantastic shape throughout his entire career. While he may not be as insanely muscular as Dwayne Johnson, he could still keep up when it comes to bulk, and he could easily gain muscle for the role.

As far as his performance goes, James has the marketed gruffness for the always-disgruntled Carter Hall and could fit perfectly into the mold of the misunderstood antihero. Chances are we’ll see a Hawkman who fans want to root against, and James may be right for that kind of character decision.

2. Liam McIntyre

More from DCEU

Liam McIntyre gained fame through his role as Spartacus in — you guessed it — Spartacus, a show in which he was always shirtless and ripped. Based on those credentials alone, McIntyre would make an excellent Hawkman.

However, he is a wonderfully diverse actor, as well. If Hawkman were to get his own film away from Black Adam and the Justice League, Liam McIntyre would probably be the ideal choice, as he could provide a wide array of characteristics for such an archetypal character. And if DC wants the hardcore, mace wielding macho-man that we’re all used to, then that’s exactly what McIntyre would deliver.

3. Travis Fimmel

Fans of the History Channel show Vikings should recognize Travis Fimmel as the savage Viking king Ragnar Lodbrok, and his performance as that character can be effortlessly translated to someone like Hawkman. They are both elite warriors, who fans sometimes do not fully understand or root for, and both could easily win the Mr. Universe bodybuilding competition.

Fimmel appears to be a no-brainer for Hawkman, as his experience in action roles similar to Carter Hall is extensive, and he is still recognizable by fans. He would be an excellent addition to the Justice League roster, and he could give “The Rock” an excellent toe-to-toe battle as the film’s antagonist.

4. Justin Hartley

Justin Hartley is no stranger to superhero roles, having played Green Arrow on Smallville, and he has only made more of a name for himself since. Starring on the worldwide phenomenon This is Us, Hartley has had somewhat of a revitalized career, and he’s possibly being looked at for several movie roles he never would have gotten beforehand.

While he is a bit old for the character, Hartley has managed to stay in terrific shape for the age of 42, and could bulk up immensely in order to stand next to Johnson. Having been in Hollywood for years, it is no secret he can act with the best of them, and this could be a different kind of character Hartley would jump at the chance to portray.

5. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones (and let’s face it, who isn’t?), then chances are you know all about Jaime Lannister, a.k.a. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Coster-Waldau has managed to make it into the final season of the fantasy show and, while his character has not been seen in action too often, he is used to staying in peak, fighting condition.

While he is well into his 40s, Coster-Waldau is still somehow an excellent specimen of a man, and with a small amount of prep time, he could bulk himself up to an insane level. He has the look for Hawkman, he is in excellent physical condition, and his acting credentials speak for themselves.

But who do you think should play Hawkman? Let us know in the comments!
