It appears Green Lantern is just the tip of the space iceberg for the DCEU with rumors suggesting a potential Martian Manhunter film could invade theaters.

The start of Walter Hamada’s tenure as head of Warner Bros DCEU has started positively. Aquaman was well received by critics, and fans flocked to theaters. Shazam is set for release Apr. 5 and early reviews from fans and critics are mostly positive.

With that said Warner Bros. has confidence in the future of their DC Comics movie franchise. Birds of Prey has started filming while James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad expects to film shortly. Rumors of a Green Lantern movie made its internet rounds. According to We Got This Covered, Martian Manhunter’s name has surfaced for a feature film.

Fans of DC Comics followed the popular alien throughout his many lives. If you’re unfamiliar with who Martian Manhunter aka J’onn J’onzz Comic Vine summarized his history.

"“Sole survivor of the Martian people, J’onn J’onzz was teleported to Earth decades ago by Dr. Saul Erdel. Since then, he has adopted Earth as his new home, playing many roles over his time with humanity: detective, secret agent, explorer, and even a pillar of the Justice League.”"

While he’s been cited as a pillar of the Justice League, that hasn’t been the case in the early part of the DCEU. Of course that was a different time with a different regime overseeing Warner Bros’ DC Comics Universe m.

Moreover, a live-action Martian Manhunter isn’t unheard of. He’s been portrayed in live-action on a couple of series. Actor Phil Morris played the Martian who disguised himself as a human, Detective John Jones on Smallville.  And, David Harewood plays J’onn J’onzz, a Martian disguised as a government agent Hank Henshaw on Supergirl.

It’s important to note that both actors depicting Martian Manhunter are Black. Why? In the pages of DC Comics he’s often depicted as White male. Although J’onn J’onnz does take on many forms in DC Comics; he’s often taken the form of a White male. With the comic book movie world still lacking in minority representation; it’ll be interesting to see if the DCEU continues their television counterpart’s trend.
