Avengers: Tom Holland did not get a script for ‘Endgame’

According to Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo, Tom Holland was not given a script out of fear he would spoil things.

Spoilers and storyline leaks have always been a nightmare for movie studios, particularly among highly anticipated movie sagas.

With the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame just around the corner, Marvel has every right to be cautious of spoilers leaking to the public – so cautious to the point where stars such as Tom Holland (Spider-Man) doesn’t get a script.

How can he act without a script you might ask? Joe Russo revealed at the Avengers Endgame Indian Anthem Launch (via Comicbook.com) that “Yeah, Tom Holland does not get the script. Tom Holland gets his lines and that’s it,” Russo explains:

"“He doesn’t even know who he’s acting opposite of. We’ll just, we use like very vague terms to describe to him what is happening in the scene, because he has a very difficult time keeping his mouth shut.”"

This isn’t the first time we’ve known about Holland and his lack of knowledge on filming. The Spider-Man star told the public that he hardly knew anything about Infinity War as well:

"“I remember for Infinity War, the Russo Brothers are like ‘So you’re just standing here, and you’re fighting this guy and just do whatever,’ and I’m like, ‘okay, who am I fighting?’”"

Holland tells the audience at ACE Comic Con in Phoenix, AZ. “And they were like ‘well, we can’t tell you because it’s a secret.’”

Holland has had a history of unintentionally revealing spoilers in the past, which makes it reasonable that Marvel has him banned from all forms of the final copy of the Infinity War and Endgame script; unlike his costar Benedict Cumberbatch who got to read the script for Infinity War in its entirety.

With the Endgame press tour starting this month, Holland will have to try his best to avoid spoiling a minor detail. With the movie only three weeks away, let’s hope he hasn’t put two and two together from his lines of filming.

Avengers: Endgame opens globally on April 26, and Spider-Man: Far From Home, will be released on July 5.
