Marvel Cinematic Universe plans will remain mysterious until the summer

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not develop until after July’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The immediate future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known in movie title only. Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home have yet to hit theaters in 2019 and are the only MCU films remaining this year.

Everything after these movies have yet to become officially announced, and Marvel Studios has no plan to make a statement until Far From Home releases, according to Marvel’s Kevin Feige, via IGN.

Feige also would not confirm Marvel Studios’ placement at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con and called it a potential “spoiler” for Avengers: Endgame:

"“I will say all of the post Comic-Con, post Spider-Man: Far From Home stuff, we … Here’s an exclusive. We’re gonna keep making movies. We’re gonna still keep making movies after these two. And we will talk about them soon after Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out.”"

It makes sense since the next Spider-Man film started its promo material months ago, despite this web-crawler’s “unknown” fate in Endgame. Sony, who let the MCU use Peter Parker, opened this earlier this year.

However, some of the MCU’s plans don’t appear to be a secret.

Rumors on the Black Widow and The Eternals films have spanned throughout 2019 and even the end of 2018, long before the Endgame and Far From Home hype started. Both films could open new avenues for the MCU and tell unique stories, including what Natasha Romanoff did before the events of Iron Man 2.

Sequels are inevitable for a handful of MCU superheroes, depending on their upcoming fate. Black Panther and Doctor Strange make too much sense to have follow-ups. Maybe one of Captain America, Iron Man or Thor sticks around for another movie and extend past the ideal trilogy.

A Captain Marvel sequel seems likely, too, after the success of the past month.

Maybe new information comes to fruition, as well. Marvel Studios can dip into any area of Marvel Comics and open moviegoers to a fresh part of their universe. Either way, the next Phase of this ever-expanding franchise will be a fascinating follow.
