Disney Plus announces Marvel and Star Wars series
By Sara Salamat
Marvel and Star Wars television series were officially announced for the Disney Plus streaming service.
The adventure continues for some of our favorite Marvel heroes as Disney announced a massive lineup during the annual Walt Disney Investor Day presentation for shareholders where a majority of Disney+’s lineup was announced.
The first Disney Plus Marvel show announced was WandaVision which has Scarlett Witch/Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany).
Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) will team up for what will be nothing short of iconic and hilarious in their new show, Falcon & Winter Soldier.
Last, but not least, Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Loki. While Hiddleston did post a vague announcement on his Instagram page back in 2018, it wasn’t until today that Disney gave us the official announcement.
The fun doesn’t stop there, Disney’s streaming service will bring us some Disney classics, as well as Disney Channel childhood classics, and some new members in the Disney family.
According to CNet, Disney Plus will include the High School Musical Series, Iconic Disney Channel hits such as Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and That’s So Raven. Major blockbuster films such as the Star Wars and Toy Story franchise will also be in the lineup at launch. The last announcement was The Simpsons joining the lineup, which was semi-expected because of their recent merger.
Also, announced was the official launch date for the Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, which will arrive when Disney Plus does. The Cassian Andor series based on Diego Luna’s character from Rogue One was also confirmed.
According to Kevin Mayer, the chairman of Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer and International Business Disney, Disney movies brought in a whopping $7 billion and “…we believe that demand will translate to Disney Plus” says Mayer.

At launch, the highly anticipated streaming service will have 7,500 episodes, 400 movie titles, 100 theatrical releases, and 25 original series. It hasn’t been announced whether or not the Marvel limited series will be apart of that 25 original series line-up but given that we haven’t seen signs of the cast filming these shows yet, so it’s highly unlikely we will see our favorite Marvel heroes reprise their roles in 2019.
Keep in mind that The Walt Disney Company now includes 21st Century Fox titles, so the library will surely be expanding beyond what we think. Following the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus will be an ad-free service, and will gradually expand to “major regions” the first two years.
Disney Plus launches on Nov. 12, 2019, for only $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year.
